Tom Tueller has worked with victims of violent crimes for over twenty years. His journey first began as an investigator and counselor with Child Protective Services.
While Tom has spent much of his career working to rehabilitate parents who have abused their children and men who have battered their intimate partners, he has also spent as much time counseling victims of violent crimes. Tom has never forgotten the importance of protecting victims or the insight they can provide in rehabilitating the offenders.
During the early 1990s when Tom was developing and implementing the first Batterer Intervention Program in Southeastern Idaho at the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Center, he relied on the experiences of victims and the guidance of advocates during this process.
The intervention and rehabilitation process he utilizes today still holds true to supporting victims and maintaining their safety. Tom served on the first committee established by the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence and Victim Assistance to assist with developing and drafting standards for Batterer programs statewide. These standards were eventually adopted by the State of Idaho.
Tom continues to actively participate in discussion and legislation surrounding batterer intervention services. Tom was awarded the Award of Excellence from the Idaho Council on Domestic Violence & Victim Assistance in 2011.
