I retired from the United States Army after 22 years as a Behavioral Science Specialist. My military career provided exposure to a wide variety of treatment topics which included inpatient psychiatric services, chemical dependency, brief crisis counseling, critical incident stress debriefing, combat operational stress, small-group instructor, sex offender/ domestic violence intervention and treatment, and resiliency training. After retirement, I wanted to continue my education with the goal of returning to clinical practice. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, gardening, weaving, and model railroading.
My clinical practice is firmly rooted in a non-directive, person-centered approach where the individual has the innate ability to find their own balance to cope with life's demands. Sometimes, these ways of coping may not be the most effective or helpful. People possess a combination of strengths and 'less-than-strong' traits to address the demands of living. To harness our inherent strengths, we explore our thoughts, emotions, actions, individual meaning, and purpose towards the goal of creating positive change in our lives.
